About Kailua
Located on Oahu’s Windward Side, Kailua is best known for its beaches. Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach are consistently ranked among America’s best beaches for their fine white sand, calm turquoise waters and picturesque views.
Due to the area’s prime location between the Koolau Mountains and Kailua Bay, the amount of developable land is scarce, eliminating the risk of urban sprawl and resulting in higher property values.
As home to Kawainui and Hamakua Marsh Complex, the state’s largest wetland nature preserve and wildlife sanctuary, Kailua is protected from overdevelopment and maintains its natural beauty and small-town atmosphere. Kailua has no high rise office buildings, shopping malls or resort hotels, and building height limits ensure that palm trees dominate the skyline.
Even with limited development, Kailua has grown enough to provide amenities including a Target, a Whole Foods Market, and numerous restaurants, boutiques and farmer’s markets.
Kailua is easily accessible to and from the airport and all of Oahu via several routes including the H-3 and Pali Highways. While people may travel from all over to enjoy Kailua’s beaches, when it’s time for them to leave, Kailua residents are already home.
